Drilling SWAT team tactics on Call of Duty 4 Part 1

So tonight I had the horrifying task of teaching 12 noisy teenagers the basic formations that form the foundations for a SWAT team, using the original SWAT team manual.

Needless to say, after a few minutes of organising I got them drilling the formations reasonably well, at one point I had 15 guys running around in one long single file line around Bloc – was quite surreal I can tell you.

Anyways, so far I’ve managed to teach them the following:

  • File formation
  • Column formation (bit harder)
  • Wedge formation (much harder)
  • Line formation (fairly straightforward)

Afterwards we had a massive private game of around 6 on 6 (with me spectating), then once the numbers dropped to 9 we went on public on Ground War. Unfortunately we met some people who were a bit rude to say the least, but thankfully we trounced them at Domination on Bloc due to two of our guys holding the building doorways and mowing them down as they tried to come in.

In the next section I intent to teach them a bit more about working these formations in a 6 man team – including “traveling”, “overwatch” and “bounding”. Once I’ve gone through that I’ll have to get them working a battle drill until they can do it properly – then I’ll move onto the more complex close quarters stuff like room clearing, hallways and large building clearing operations! :o
